In this paper I will seek to prove that love is the foundation of the human race by: First, illustrating that if love unifies all humans, then it is also the foundation of the human race; second, verifying that love unifies all humans. Therefore, it follows that because love unifies all humans, love is also the foundation of the human race.

Premise 1:

In order to see if love is the foundation of the human race we must first hold as truth the assumption that indeed love does unify all humans. We will prove this claim in our later premise. We must next establish the relationship between a unifying element and a foundation in order to determine that love is the foundation as well as unifying element of the human race.

A unifying element is something that links an entire whole together. Thus, if love links the entire human race together, then love is the unifying element of the human race. A foundation is the basis or groundwork of anything. Thus, if love is the basis or groundwork of the human race, then love is also the foundation of the human race.

If love is the unifying element of humans, then love links the entire human race. In order to link all humans together, the link must be built on something common to what all humans share. Additionally, in order for this link to be built there must be a groundwork for which love is built upon. The groundwork for which love is built upon is the foundation.

We have assumed that love does unify all humans, which in turn means that love links all humans. However, we have now proven that in order to link all humans there must be groundwork for which this unification or link is built upon. We also know that this groundwork is the foundation which love is built upon. If love is built on a foundation, then love in its most basic form is the foundation that it was built on.

We previously established that all unifying elements are built on a foundation. We have now additionally established that the unifying element in its most basic form is the foundation on which it was built. Therefore, if love unifies all humans, then it is also the foundation of the human race.

Premise 1 Conclusion: If love unifies all humans, then it is also the foundation of the human race.

Premise 2:

We proved earlier in Premise 1 that a unifying element in its most basic form is the foundation that it was built upon. We can use this to prove that if love is the foundation that the human race is built on, then love is also the unifying element of the human race.

Love is merely a neutral concept which determines how one interacts with the world around oneself. These interactions can be love as friendship, respect, self-love, mutual love, love as a feeling, love as relationship, love as god, etc. Love is often associated with being a positive term, however, this is not necessarily so. Love is a matter of quantity in relation to interactions. For example, hate is just the least amount of love one can have for something. Or, if I love someone, I hate them the least amount. If I hate them, I love them the least.

We stated earlier that a foundation is the basis or groundwork of anything. In order for love to be the foundation, it must account for the way in which all humans interact. Whether these interactions are with others, to themselves, or even to inanimate objects such as a tree, all humans interact with something on an everyday basis. The way all humans then interact with anything stems from a measure of love.

Love as a measure of interaction explains both positive and negative relationships. A relationship can be of distrust, which is bad, but it is still an interaction in relation to quantities of love. Love can be the foundation of something good or bad, but it is still the foundation of a relationship. Love isn’t good to start with. Love is a neutral concept which produces different products. For example people who are considered enemies still exemplify love through that relationship. Instead of love leading to a relationship of respect or kindness, it produces distrust and disrespect.

We have proven that in order to interact all humans show some form of love. Because all humans interact, and all humans must show a form of love in order to interact, then all humans love. However, in order for something to be a foundation, it must also be the first layer with nothing underneath it. It doesn’t take something else to make a foundation. A foundation is the base of what everything is built on. In order to confirm that there isn’t anything that comes ‘before’ love we can look to the teachings of Aristotle. Aristotle claimed that love is an end means in itself. If something is an end in itself, it’s not a product of anything else. Love is the ultimate good because it is not to achieve something else. Therefore, love is an end in itself and a foundation.

We previously proved that a unifying element in its most basic form is the foundation that it was built upon. We have now proved that love is the foundation that the human race is built on. Therefore, we can conclude that love is also the unifying element of the human race.

Premise 2 Conclusion: Love unifies all humans.

Overall Conclusion: The two conclusions that we proved in the premises were: If love unifies all humans, then it is also the foundation of the human race; love unifies all humans. Given these conclusions we can confidently state that because love unifies all humans, love is also the foundation of the human race.
