We as a group we have been set tasks to evaluate an existing system and capture the required improvements that should be made to the system through comprehensive research using the required methods to improve usability of the system. As a group we are to understand the user and capture its needs through numerous of method for example, questionnaire. We as a group decided to evaluate the system ( as we did a thorough inspection from which some major errors were confronted by each member.

To check if these were to reflect the user of the system and that it was effecting the lack of consistent and comprehensive movement from within the site we considered to evaluate the system using the ‘Ten heuristic by Jacob Nelsons’ and ‘Shneiderman’s 8 Golden Rules’ these were done week 7, 10.1103. Theses were split between the group as two were to evaluate the system using the ‘Ten heuristic’ and the other two were to use the 8 golden rules. These are stated in the appendences under evaluation methods.

The evaluation method constructed within the group the errors that were found are e to tested with the users and get feedback via the talk aloud and the questionnaire from which we will be able to test the system and capture the user requirements Heuristic evaluation: This method was to evaluate the system ( and obtain the usability difficulties that we thought the user would find complex to exploit. This method was carried out within the group, to identify the problem that we thought would affect any user using the system.

“Heuristic evaluation is done as a systematic inspection of a user interface design for usability. The goal of heuristic evaluation is to find the usability problems in the design so that they can be attended to as part of an iterative design process. Heuristic evaluation involves having a small set of evaluators examine the interface and judge its compliance with recognized usability principles (the “heuristics”)”. Using the ten heuristic we evaluated the system very methodically from which we obtain certain usability problems. The most consistent problems which each member of the group found were the “registering” and “login” procedures.

We as a group have decided to choose four methods of research, as we want to be able to collect as much accurate data as possible. This is because the information that is going to be collected has to be accurate and has to be detailed in respects of the objective of the tasks. We have chosen the following research methods: Questionnaire The questionnaire is great way to obtain information and opinion, as this research method has a number of advantages and disadvantages when compared with other research methods. The key strengths and weaknesses of questionnaires are summarised in bullet points below. In general, questionnaires are effective research method for efficient collection of certain kinds of information. They are not, however, a comprehensive means of research and should be used to support and supplement other procedures for evaluating and improving aspeects of paticular tasks.

Advantages of questionnaires 1. They permit respondents time to consider their responses carefully without interference from, for example, an interviewer. 2. Cost. It is possible to provide questionnaires to large numbers of people simultaneously. 3. Uniformity. Each respondent receives the identical set of questions. With closed-form questions, responses are standardised, which can assist in interpreting from large numbers of respondents.

4. Can address a large number of issues and questions of concern in a relatively efficient way, with the possibility of a high response rate. 5. Often, questionnaires are designed so that answers to questions are scored and scores summed to obtain an overall measure of the attitudes and opinions of the respondent. 6. They permit anonymity. It is usually argued that anonymity increases the rate of response and may increase the likelihood that responses reflect genuinely held opinions.
