Roger D’Aprix’s “It’s Time to Revitalize the Work Place (and the Work Force)” primarily gives information on how great corporate cultures of the past—when human values dominated the work force—are slowly being ripped away. D’Aprix started his argument by stressing the significance of human values in creating a committed workplace where time and energy is spent meaningfully; after all that’s (specify instead what “that’s” refers to) the very basic way of seeking fulfillment at work. However, as the nature of work changed overtime — a change clearly based on the company and senior leaders’ selfish interests and single-minded focus on shareholders — the workers’ distrust towards many companies increased.

As a result of this, the value system of the labor force also changed. The information-dependent economy somehow restricted the workers to fully use and explore their intelligence, skills, and talents. However, D’Aprix offered solutions on the unavoidable changes in the value system through combating face to face communication between leaders and followers.

Instead of using technology as a means of leadership and avoidance device on the company’s side, it would be more important to communicate personally to have mutual evaluation between employers and employees and to be aware of the strengths and weaknesses of both. In this way, employees as well as the company as a whole will be encouraged to participate in a meaningful work which will later lead to the fulfillment of higher objectives.

In his article, Roger D’Aprix provided the readers information on the existing corporate and organization cultures that have greatly affected the labor force. Nevertheless, he believes that there is still hope in producing productive workplaces where both company and workers will benefit. It may sound idealistic, but the only solution to this existing problems in the work is effective “human leadership and human collaboration. ”
