new moon
You cant see the moon because it is between the Earth and the Sun. This is also the first phase of the moon.

first quarter moon
The moons phase in which the moon appears as a half circle. The right half of the moon is visible as it grows toward a full moon.

full moon
Occurs when ALL of the Moons surface facing Earth reflects light.


third quarter
A phase of the moon in which the left half of the moon is illuminated.

crescent
where LESS than half the moon is lit.

gibbous
where MORE than half the moon is lit.

waxing
growing or expanding in light.

waning
shrinking in light.
