Richer Sounds have functional areas to be able to have an organised and successful business. Big companies or even smaller businesses need to have the functional areas in order to be able to have a successful business. A functional area organises the business into different parts and areas of the business. The company elects or forwards a person to do a specific task. Renowned and big companies are split up into departments these departments are big and require are a lot of attention.

Below is a description of functions carried out within a Richer Sounds. Human resources – these relates to the colleagues of Richer Sounds they ensures the business has the best staff for the job and they can work in a safe environment. They train their staff to be able to work in stores. Finance – It is headed by John Carrier. His job is to keep records of all money coming in and going out of the business, it also deals with funds by paying wages and salaries and this department also prepares accounts, and keeps all the documents for future reference.

Marketing and sales – The marketing director (Claudia Vernon) and her colleagues do a number of tasks, -which includes- The marketing department analyses for feedback from customers and gets information about competitors to identify the future of the business. The marketing department also decides how to advertise and promote products and/or the business. Also, the marketing department produces in store catalogues and advertisements to go in the national press and specialist magazines. Designers create point-of-sale materials such as sings, price tickets, and leaflets.

Points of sale make sure the store looks as interesting and as lively as possible so that it appeals to the customer. The marketing department is also responsible for the design, updating and analyzing of the website. The marketing department researches the needs of key customers so that they can produce what the customers want such as: * Excellent value, reliable products* Accurate and truthful information *Friendly customer service * Bright, lively store. They do this so to meet the customers’ needs by offering those services and quality products, which persuades and encourages them to come back and shop.

Whilst the sales deals with the selling department Colleague support – this is also another name given to the human resources in Richer Sounds. This department also deals with Recruitment, training and other aspects of the human resources. This deal with the communication with there staffs and establishes the staffing needs. Purchasing, warehousing and distribution – Although Purchasing and Distribution are two separate departments at Richer Sounds, they have link because they see the goods are bought, stored and distributed to the stores.

Administration and IT support – this department deals with advanced technology and they keep records of the present department and they organise and write letters to various departments. They keep data base of customers to send them newsletters and ensure they are satisfied with their products. They make sure that the product is safe to use Customer service – There are a number of things that a business will need to provide to give there customer good service. This also includes the services and repairs department.

Providing information, the type of information required by customers and clients can vary a lot. The customer service departments’ job is mostly to take care of there customers they do these by given the customer satisfaction through giving their costumer service top priority by recruit and train the right people for the various department to do well and also motivate colleagues to treat the costumers well and have a friendly environment and also they made it a costumer friendly environment by providing the necessary things that the costumers will use.

Then they finally measure the results by asking the costumers some sales questionnaires and send them surveys. The department uses various ways to attract the costumers by providing the necessary satisfaction which include: *Ease to access *Layout of the space *Ease for costumers to find what they are looking for *They insist on smart colleagues in uniform *They treat the costumers well and they provide a well cruised environment ICT in Richer Sounds could be developed because technology increases every day and so they hope for improvement and development on the future.

The reason is because ICT and technology enables people to communicate more easily and conducive due to the development improvement. They can improve by the use of video conferencing which allows two or more departments to interact via two-way video and audio transmissions simultaneously. They can also improve by making the business a paper less business which involves the use of ICT throughout the business and it makes it less stress for the business. They can also use ICT to design newsletters to all their customers advertising the business.

They can offer special deals to existing customers by giving the customers discount, half prices and others. They can also use This enables people to communicate more easily and more quickly. Internal communications includes the communication within the business. Richer sounds use these kinds of communications because they need to communicate from directors or senior mangers to colleagues. They also communicate from different functional areas or department of richer sounds to another.
