Iran is a country in western Asia, officially known as the Islamic Republic of Iran. It was popularly known as Persia before 1935. It has a population of over 70 million and is the eighteenth largest country in the world with thirty provinces, and each province is governed by governor. Tehran is the capital of Iran which is home of around 11% of Iran’s population. Iran is beautiful country with an area of 636,000 sq mi. Iran ranks second in the world in natural gas and also second in oil reserve.

It maintains the diplomatic relationship with almost every member of the United Nation, except Israel, which it does not recognize, and the United States after Iranian revolution. Iran is a diverse country consisting of people of many religions and ethnic background cemented by the Persian culture. The majority of the people speak Persian language, which is official language of the country. In the middle ages the Islamic rule comes in to picture.

After the Islamic conquest of Persia most of the urban land was under the rule of Muslims. By the end of 9th century Islam has became the dominant religion in Persia. “Iran”) Dr. Mohammed Mossadegh was elected as prime minister of Iran, and he is very popular in Iran, because he knows about Iran’s petroleum and oil industry. But the British government with the help of United States stopped the democratically elected government of Mossadegh and he was arrested. Thus shah with the American support modernize Iranian infrastructure but crushed all forms of political opposition with his intelligence agency. Ayatollah Khomeini then became the critic to shah’s white revolution and he is the one who publicly criticized the United States government.

Thus the Iranian revolution started. This Iranian revolution is also known as Islamic revolution. In this revolution common people was against shah and Khomeini become a supreme leader of the country. In mid August, shortly after the election of the constitution writing assembly, the magazines which are opposing Khomeini’s idea of theocratic rule by jurists were shut down. Around seventy dozen newspapers and magazine opposing Khomeini rule were closed.

They are not allowed to publish newspaper. Iran’s economy is badly effected by the revolution, even though petroleum export is still strong, he per capita income is effected with the price of oil. The media in Iran is owned both publicly as well as privately, but in either cases it has no control over the article it publishes. The media is completely in control of government. Only license holders can publish the newspapers as per law. It was stated in “NY Daily news” that Neda, 16 year old girl was killed on the street of Tehran. Her shocking and quick death in the arms of her howling father was captured on close up video, and it has been posted on facebook and twitter.

Within hour of her death, poster of girl is brandished by demonstrator in Los Angeles and New York City. The video was uploaded on facebook, by doctor in Tehran who try to save her life. She was just 16 years old. These painful make the Tehran city quite. An ABC reporter in Dubai said she was told the girl was rapidly buried to forestall a funeral rally. It is a dictatorship rather than democracy. Because every democratic country should respect their country citizens and should give them full rights to have an interaction with world.

The limitation given to the media is completely illogical and hard to understand. Iran History, Revolution and News Paper Closing: In the early history many tribes migrated to Iran and the country is separated in to two groups, Eastern and Western group. The famous tribes in Iran at that period were Medes, Persians, Parthians, Cimmerians, Alans and Scythian etc. Medes, Persians and Parthians populated the western part were as Samartians and Alans populated the steppes north of the black sea. But in the middle ages the Islamic rule come in to picture.

After the Islamic conquest of Persia most of the urban land was under the rule of Muslims. Many provinces in Iran try to defend themselves against this Arab invade but none was able to stand against them. There was a time when many cities rose in rebellions and they killed many Arab governors, but eventually the Arab army had an upper hand on rebellions, thus the Islamic rule started in Iran.

According to Thefullwiki “By the end of 9th century Islam has became the dominant religion in Persia. This bloodshed did not stopped on this, in 1218 during the rule of Genghis Khan, more than half of Iran’s population as killed, thereby turning the major cities of Persia such as Neishabur in to river of blood. Between 1220 and 1260, the population of Iran dropped from 2,500,000 to 250,000. 3 In the mid of 14th century black death killed around 30% of countries population and therefore the Iran was made Islamized”. But it was not Arabized. Even though the Arab got there upper hand and succeeded to control Iran and establish the Islam, the religion in Iran was not same as Arab religion, it is a new religion as is known as Islam-I Ajam, sometimes called as Persian Islam.

The major development after the advent of Islam in Iran was rise of the New Persian language as an important Indo-European language, thus the Islamic rule brought some change in society in terms of development in literature, philosophy, medicine and art. Now the another face of Islamic state come in to existence when the Shi’a Islamic state was established under a ruler called Shah Ismail under Safavid Dynasty. There capital was Isfahan, under his rule the Iran became modernize, the military is made and he moreover focused on architecture developments.

Safavid Dynasty comes to an end and then Zand dynasty rule Iran for three generations and then at last came the Qajar era. But out of all these things, Iran maintain its sovereignty and was never colonized. There was many protest in Qajar period resulted in Iran constitutional revolution, thereby establishing the nation’s first parliament in 1906, with in a constitutional monarchy. In 1925, Reza Khan overthrew the Qajar Dynasty and he became the ruler. The concentrated on overall country growth by building industries and railroad and a good education system.

In 1951, Dr. Mohammed Mossadegh was elected as prime minister of Iran, he is very popular in Iran, as her nationalized Iran’s petroleum and oil industry. But the British government with the help of United states depose the democratically elected government of Mossadegh and he was arrested and thus shah with the American support modernize Iranian infrastructure but crushed all forms of political opposition with his intelligence agency, Ayatollah Khomeini was then became the critic to shah’s white revelution and he is the one who publicly criticized the United States government.

Thus the Iranian revolution started. This Iranian evolution is also known as Islamic revolution4, in this revolution common people was against shah and Khomeini become a supreme leader of the country. The revolution surprised the world. These revolution effect the relationship between United States and Iran. “On November 4, 1979, a group of Iranian students seized US embassy personnel. 5 Student leader had not even taken the permission of Khomeini to seize the embassy. Khomeini was not known about it, but he supported the embassy take over after hearing it success. Out of these US embassy personnel, female and African American hostages were released within a month.

But 52 hostages were there in there custody for about 444days. ” (Dareini). Iraq leader Saddam Hussein tries to make use of this opportunity and try to disorder the Iran army but even though he had some quick success, somehow Iran manages to make Iraq army back. But in all these the once –strong army of Iran has been effected a lot in these revolution. News Paper Closing: In mid August, shortly after the election of the constitution writing assembly, the magazines which are opposing Khomeini’s idea of theocratic rule by jurists were shut down. Around seventy dozen newspapers and magazine opposing Khomeini rule were closed.

They are not allowed to publish newspaper. Iran’s economy is badly affected by the revolution, even though petroleum export is still strong, the per capita income is affected with the price of oil. Because of revolution there are few benefits that can be seen such as education, health care for the poor, and government promotion of Islam and moreover American influence in government. 7 Media and its Influence after revolution: The media in Iran is owned both publicly as well as privately, but in either cases it has no control over the article it publishes. The media is completely in control of government.

The government allotted a special court which will monitor all the article publish in the newspaper and under its authority the article and journals will be publish both inside or outside the nation. It does not mean that the constitution will not provides freedom of the press, but the idea behind is as long as the published material is accords with Islamic principles; the constitution will not influence the media. Any publication which writes against the Islam will not be given a license to publish newspaper. Only license holders can publish the newspapers as per law. The major newspapers for the country are printed in Tehran.

Most of these papers are publish in local language i. e. , in Persian. But newspaper in English and other languages also exists. The most famous and widely distributed news papers are based in Tehran. Popular daily and weekly newspapers include Ettelaat, Kayhan, and Resalat. The English language papers are Tehran Times and Iran daily, all these newspaper are considered to be perfectly Islamic. They do not endorse every program of central government. Tehran is center for communication and transport network which connect country people through news paper, TV channels and radio channels etc.

The one of the famous news paper in Iran is published in Tehran by the name Tehran Times. Tehran times is a well connected conservation publication and it is famous for printing and publishing the stories that other news paper would not dare to cover. Basically there is no censorship of nonfiction exists, but if the published book, article or journal is proved against the Islamic law, then action will be taken against both the author and the publisher of newspaper for breaking the morals of society or of being disrespectful towards the Islamic rules.

The outside world know less about the Iran at that time because of this reason and the private publishers were restricted to print only subject which will not create conflict with government. Since 1987 after Shah rule many history, science, articles, classical poetry and literature has been published, but no new works of contemporary fiction is approved in print. Not only press but the radio and television broadcasting is also controlled by the government and they too can not telecast any news which is against the law. (“The Mass Media”) If they do so then there will action taken against them by law.

Major cities like Tehran have the facility of television and radio stations. Stations in Azerbaijan and Kordestan are permitted to broadcast some programs in Kurdish and Azeri Turkish. Current Affairs and Media Influence: The very current affair where the media hide themselves from there responsibility, but the truth revealed to all over the world. According to the news paper article of NY Daily news “Neda, young girl brutally killed in Iran becoming symbol of rebellion is a shameful incident for humanity”. It was updated on Monday June 22nd 2009, the news is about a teenage girl Neda-which means voice in Farsi and how she was killed.

It was stated that Neda was killed on the street of Tehran. Her shocking and quick death in the arms of her howling father was captured on close up video; it has been posted on facebook and twitter. “ RIP Neda, the world cries seeing your last breath,” was one of a flood messages on Twitter.

Therefore when the media has no proper right in the country like Iran and the cases of such inhuman act is going on in the society, even though there in no action taken by the government. This is a question on the democracy of the country. The social networks such as facebook and twitter was considered as a waste of time has proven a very great importance for the people who are in trouble. I feel it as a dictatorship rather than democracy. Because I feel like every democratic country should respect their country citizens and should give them full rights to have an interaction with world.

The limitation given to the media is completely illogical and hard to understand. Conclusion: I feel like Iran is country which gives importance to religion but they are lacking with the fundamentals of humanity, if we see the condition of the people over there, they are struggling since many decades. Firs they are suffered because of people who migrated to their country and then they are now struggling to survive and to get good life because, even though Iran said itself as a democratic country then it should follow the basic concept of the democracy i. . , government is for the benefit of people and rules are made to maintain peace in the country. But I don’t think there is any point in hiding their things happening in their country from the outside world. I feel it as a dictatorship rather than democracy. Because I feel like every democratic country should respect their country citizens and should give them full rights to have an interaction with world. The limitation given to the media is completely illogical and hard to understand. There should be more protest against these law of the government.

And government should accept the demand of the people because if they feel the country is democratic then every media should be given full authority to write what is right and of course if government wants to control the media then they should make sure that the news they are printing should not be false. And if some newspaper is publishing something which is has fault in it, then that news paper should be banned or theirs license should be cancelled by government. So I strongly feel that government should change their way of thinking for the benefit of humanity.
