Gay Marriage Ruins the Current Stellar Institution of Marriage Starting with the last prompt of the assignment, according to our textbook, “Win-win orientations assume that there are usually ways to resolve differences so that everyone gains…When all people are committed to finding a mutually acceptable solution, a win-win resolution is possible” (Wood, 2009, p. 230). Unfortunately, here is the precise problem with the religious zealots who call themselves Christians.
They are forever stuck in a win-lose orientation. What becomes ludicrous is they believe somehow, the human right to share love with an individual of the same sex in a committed relationship with all of the legal benefits will cause strife for them. None of the gay population is telling them to marry same-sex individual yet they insist, if gays want to marry and raise a family, it must be with someone of the opposite sex.
Heterosexuals are doing such an exemplary job of getting marriage right that is common knowledge the divorce rate hovers around fifty percent. The point here is the institution of marriage has been in the toilet for quite some time now and the only thing extending the legal right to gay couples will do is boost the economy with fabulously lavish weddings and then the inevitable lining of divorce lawyers’ pockets. Cynical humor is part of the gay culture’s way of dealing with the repression and secret hiding in the closet which is still prevalent.
Gays so not want to steal your husbands or sons or raise gay children. Although in some ways society is becoming more accepting, gay children suffer much more from bullying than do straight children. Most gays just want to live a happy live with all the rights (not privileges-driving is a privilege) others have. Gays do not want the bible thumpers to lose at all, but rather just be happy in their ignorant delusions amongst their own peeps.
We come from place of pointing out how preposterous the “other side” can be as illustrated at The Huffington Post in “an effort to ‘keep straight couples from getting divorced and hating their children,’ [all should] check out this hilarious video from ‘the coalition of people whose lives are ruined whenever other people are treated equally’” (‘The Ultimate Anti-Gay Marriage Ad’ , 2013). The religious right (wrong) somehow see it as the end of days. Some groups feel it is their mission to save sinners.
Some who are not persecuting the gays say they love gays regardless of their sinning ways. That group should actually be thanking the gays for allowing them the opportunity to love sinners as their god promotes that particular path to heaven. Above I wrote this opposing group sees it as a win-lose situation because they lose when gays win the opportunity to have a basic human right. It is interesting that some of the more zealous groups see gay marriage as a lose-lose situation. After all it is the apocalypse and the world is going to hell.
Now why they cannot be satisfied with their notion that those who are not chosen (gays being just one group depending on the perspective of the crazies) will not rise again and forever be condemned to eternal damnation is beyond my comprehension. Here is the win-win situation: Gays will live a happy life married to those they want to marry and then burn in hell to pay for their sins. The zealots can rest easy knowing that, in fact, judgment is truly God’s job so they have nothing about which to be concerned. Well maybe they should worry about how pissed off He is going to be about them thinking they could do His job.
